In contact komen met anderen met NLD / Getting in touch with others with NVLD

Hoi hoi,

Hi,

This week I want to pay attention in the blog post, how you can get in touch with other people with NVLD. Because NVLD is difficult enough for us (people with NVLD), but talking about it with friends, classmates or colleagues is even more difficult. If you want to talk to them about it, just explain what it is and what is involved for you. They may only partially understand it or they may not understand it at all. Despite the fact that I have very sweet friends and classmates, nice teammates, nice colleagues, I rarely or never talk about NVLD with them. On the one hand, because they accept me as I am. On the other hand, because they either don't understand or aren't interested in it. And even talking to parents about it can be very difficult, because they don't always understand how you feel either. That is why it would be nice to come into contact with other fellow sufferers who understand you and where you can share your thoughts or with whom you can exchange experiences. With this you can give each other tips or support each other.
Now it is true that especially for young people like us, here in the Netherlands there are little or no websites or other social media to get in touch with each other. That is why it is great that Isabelle has started this and that we are allowed to work on it. There are of course forums on various websites that talk about NVLD and where you can participate, but there is no site such as Het NVLD-plan. Fortunately for us, of course, because we want people to be able to get in touch with each other via our website (and of course Facebook and Instagram pages). But on the other hand, that means that there is still far too little attention for NVLD. On Facebook there are some other Dutch-language pages where you can come into contact with each other (e.g. NLD non-verbal learning disability)), although there are few and often small, closed groups. But it may also be worth a visit. If you also want to come into contact with teenagers and / or adults with NVLD internationally, you already have more choice on Facebook. You have e.g. a fb page NVLD-Non-verbal Learning Disorder and The NVLD Project. There is even an English page for parents of children with NVLD, who can share each other's experiences and ask each other for advice: NVLD Non Verbal Learning Disability-Support for Parents. And although we of course hope that you will remain loyal to our website and FB / Insta page as much as possible and (continue to) get in touch with each other here, there are still a number of pages where you can come into contact with other NVLDs. And that is of course also important to us.

Until the next blog post,
Anouck
